Oregon Gas Tax Overview
Oregon’s state tax on gasoline is 40¢ a gallon and 40¢ on diesel, the rate in force since January 1, 2024. That is the 11th-highest state gasoline tax of the 50 states and DC. Fixed by statute; voters rejected a 6¢ increase in May 2026.
With the federal 18.4¢, a gallon of gasoline carries 58.4¢ of per-gallon tax, so a 15-gallon fill-up includes about $8.76 of fuel tax whatever the pump price. About 30 cities and two counties add their own fuel tax, mostly 1¢–5¢ (e.g., Multnomah County 3¢, Washington County 1¢, Eugene 5¢); Portland's is 10¢.
