Iowa Gas Tax Overview
Iowa’s state tax on gasoline is 30¢ a gallon and 32.5¢ on diesel. That is the 27th-highest state gasoline tax of the 50 states and DC. Rates for each blend reset every July 1 based on the prior year's ethanol and biodiesel sales shares.
With the federal 18.4¢, a gallon of gasoline carries 48.4¢ of per-gallon tax, so a 15-gallon fill-up includes about $7.26 of fuel tax whatever the pump price.
The rate is due to be reset on July 1, 2027; the new figure is not published yet.
