Nebraska 529 State Tax Benefit (2026)
Deduction of up to $10,000, per return.
Only Nebraska plans (NEST, Bloomwell 529, State Farm 529) qualify. Rollovers in from another state's plan are deductible up to $10,000; rollovers out are recaptured.
Only the account owner (or UGMA/UTMA custodian) who made the contribution can claim. The limit is $10,000 for joint returns too ($5,000 if married filing separately). Until 2029 Nebraska treats K-12 withdrawals as nonqualified and recaptures prior deductions. Employer contributions included in your income get a separate subtraction of up to $10,000.
Coming change: From January 1, 2029, K-12 tuition withdrawals become qualified in Nebraska, matching federal rules; the deduction cap is unchanged.
