Mississippi Gas Tax Overview

Mississippi’s state tax on gasoline is 24.4¢ a gallon and 24.4¢ on diesel, the rate in force since July 1, 2026. That is the 39th-highest state gasoline tax of the 50 states and DC. Rises to 27¢ on July 1, 2027; from July 2029, adjusted every other year to highway construction costs, by at most 1¢.

With the federal 18.4¢, a gallon of gasoline carries 42.8¢ of per-gallon tax, so a 15-gallon fill-up includes about $6.42 of fuel tax whatever the pump price. Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties add a 3¢ seawall tax on gasoline.

Scheduled change: from July 1, 2027 the rate becomes 27.4¢ on gasoline and 27.4¢ on diesel.
