Kentucky EV Fees and Incentives (2026)

Kentucky charges an annual EV ownership fee on electric cars and plug-in hybrids, set at $126 from January 2025 and collected at registration and each renewal; hybrids pay nothing extra. It is adjusted each January 1 by a highway construction cost index, by up to 5% a year.

The fee is re-indexed every January 1; the next amount has not been published yet.

No state-funded rebate or tax credit for buying an electric car is open in Kentucky as of October 2026; check your electric utility for local rebates.

The federal clean vehicle tax credits (up to $7,500 for a new EV, up to $4,000 for a used EV, and the commercial clean vehicle credit) ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025. A vehicle still qualifies if a binding written contract was signed and a payment made by that date, even if it was delivered later; the credit is then claimed for the year of delivery.
