Florida Gas Tax Overview
Florida’s state tax on gasoline is 34.1¢ a gallon and 40.97¢ on diesel, the rate in force since January 1, 2026. That is the 17th-highest state gasoline tax of the 50 states and DC. Fuel sales tax and transportation tax adjusted for inflation each January 1; pollutant taxes set by law and fund balances.
With the federal 18.4¢, a gallon of gasoline carries 52.5¢ of per-gallon tax, so a 15-gallon fill-up includes about $7.87 of fuel tax whatever the pump price. Counties add 6¢ to 12¢ a gallon in local gasoline taxes (every county charges at least 6¢); the 7¢ county taxes on diesel apply everywhere and are counted in the state rate.
The rate is due to be reset on January 1, 2027; the new figure is not published yet.
