Vermont 529 State Tax Benefit (2026)
10% tax credit, worth up to $250 ($500 on a joint return), per beneficiary, per taxpayer.
Only VT529 accounts offered directly by VSAC qualify; the contribution portion of a rollover in from another state's plan counts.
The nonrefundable credit is 10% of the first $2,500 per taxpayer per beneficiary; each spouse on a joint return counts separately. Any withdrawal not used for approved college costs, including K-12 tuition, Roth IRA rollovers, rollovers out of state and beneficiary changes to another account, triggers a 10% repayment, capped at credits received.
