Massachusetts 529 State Tax Benefit (2026)

Deduction of up to $1,000 ($2,000 on a joint return), per return. Only contributions to U.Fund College Investing Plan (MEFA/Fidelity, direct-sold); U.Plan Prepaid Tuition Program count; money put into another state’s plan earns no Massachusetts deduction or credit.

The limit is per return, no matter how many beneficiaries. The deduction is recaptured if withdrawals go to anything other than qualified higher-education costs (or the beneficiary's death, disability or scholarship), so K-12 tuition withdrawals trigger recapture.
