Colorado Gas Tax Overview
Colorado’s state tax on gasoline is 29.86¢ a gallon and 35.36¢ on diesel, the rate in force since October 1, 2026. That is the 30th-highest state gasoline tax of the 50 states and DC. Excise is fixed; road usage and bridge fees rise each July through fiscal 2031–32, then track inflation; other fees follow fund balances.
With the federal 18.4¢, a gallon of gasoline carries 48.26¢ of per-gallon tax, so a 15-gallon fill-up includes about $7.24 of fuel tax whatever the pump price.
The rate is due to be reset on January 1, 2027; the new figure is not published yet.
