Eligibility: income ≤150% FPL OR ≤60% state median income (state's choice). Households with elderly, disabled, or young children get priority. Benefits paid directly to utility company on your behalf (usually). Some states offer cooling assistance (summer cooling) in addition to heating. Crisis Assistance available year-round for shut-off threats. Apply through state LIHEAP office or local Community Action Agency. Funding distributed October-November (heating season) and June-August (cooling season). Benefit amounts vary widely by state climate and funding allocation.
