Detailed explanation

2026 Plans G and N are the most popular for new enrollees (Plan F closed to new enrollees in 2020 — limited to those eligible for Medicare before 1/1/2020). Plan G: covers everything except the Part B annual deductible ($240 in 2026). Plan N: lower premium, requires copays at office visits ($20) and ER ($50). Open enrollment: 6 months starting the month you turn 65 AND enrolled in Part B — guaranteed issue, no underwriting. Outside that window, insurers may medically underwrite or deny in most states (NY, CT, MA, ME require ongoing guaranteed issue). Medigap does NOT cover dental, vision, hearing, prescription drugs (need separate Part D plan). Cannot be combined with Medicare Advantage (Part C) — choose one or the other.
