True Shooting % Calculator

True Shooting Percentage measures how efficiently a basketball player turns shot attempts into points, and it does so more honestly than plain field goal percentage. Where field goal percentage ignores the extra reward of a made three and the points pulled in at the line, TS% rolls field goals, three-pointers, and free throws into one number. In the analytics-heavy NBA of 2026, scouts and general managers lean on that figure when they grade a scorer's offensive value.

The formula divides points by 2 times the quantity (field goal attempts plus 0.44 times free throw attempts). That 0.44 coefficient on free throw attempts is an empirically derived constant: it approximates how much a free throw attempt is worth relative to a field goal attempt, given that a trip to the line usually yields two or three free throws per foul.

For all its usefulness, TS% says nothing about turnovers or offensive rebounds, both of which shape what a player gives an offense. It also rewards roles unevenly, so a spot-up shooter feeding on open looks will post a higher mark than a primary ball-handler who creates and absorbs the toughest attempts. Read any TS% with the player's role and shot diet in mind rather than comparing the raw numbers in isolation.
