Ohio 529 State Tax Benefit (2026)
Deduction of up to $4,000, per beneficiary. Ohio is one of the few “tax parity” states: contributions to any state’s 529 plan count, so you can pick a plan for its fees and investments and keep the state benefit.
Contributions above $4,000 per beneficiary carry forward with no time limit until fully deducted.
Any contributor can deduct their own contributions. A married couple shares one $4,000 limit per beneficiary; other households, such as grandparents, get their own, with no total cap across beneficiaries. Nonqualified withdrawals are added back up to prior deductions.
